Invisalign®

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an alternative orthodontic treatment to traditional braces. It uses removable mouthpieces to improve the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

Invisalign aligners fit snugly over your teeth. They’re made of SmartTrack®, a thermoplastic that doesn’t contain gluten, BPA, or latex, making it safe for pregnant people and those with allergies.

What types of alignment issues can Invisalign treat?

At Wellness Dental, Dr. Giple-Johnson uses Invisalign to treat various alignment issues, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowding
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Misaligned jaw

You might also benefit from Invisalign treatment if you have a bite abnormality, like crossbite or underbite.

What does Invisalign treatment involve?

Dr. Giple-Johnson reviews your dental records, completes an oral exam, and takes digital X-rays. If you have a mild or moderate alignment issue that can benefit from Invisalign, she takes digital impressions of your mouth.

Then, Dr. Giple-Johnson uploads your scans to a computer program and develops a custom treatment plan. She maps the precise movements of your teeth and jaw and sends your impressions to an Invisalign lab.

Technicians at the lab create a series of custom orthodontic aligners. A week or two later, you return to Wellness Dental and try the aligners on.

During treatment, you visit Dr. Giple-Johnson for regular check-ups. At each visit, you get a new set of removable aligners. Each set puts slightly different pressure on your teeth and jaw, improving their position.

How long does treatment with Invisalign take?

Most teens and adults complete Invisalign treatment in 12–18 months*, but it may take longer depending on the alignment issues treated and your commitment to Dr. Giple-Johnson’s treatment plan. Wear your aligners for 22 hours a day, only taking them out when eating or brushing and flossing your teeth.

How do I keep my Invisalign aligners clean?

Cleaning your Invisalign aligners is easy. Dr. Giple-Johnson recommends rinsing them in cold tap water after meals and snacks and brushing them with a soft-bristled toothbrush before going to bed. For more thorough cleanings, ask Dr. Giple-Johnson at Invisalign cleaning crystals.
